Moodboard: sofá blanco de cuero // White Leader Sofa

Supongamos que durante la fiebre del sofá de cuero blanco, te compraste uno (no voy a juzgarte) y que lo pusiste en tu casa, junto a un montón de muebles de alto brillo, blancos también, y luego fuiste a por el negro, el gris, el rojo... Y resulta que ahora tu casa te parece fría y poco acogedora. Porque en el fondo sabes que te pasaste. Y que hay que tener cuidado con las tendencias...

Let's pretend you bought a white leader sofa during the white-leather-sofa-fieber (I'm not judging) and you brought it home along with loads of high gloss furniture, also in white, and then you leaned towards greys, reds and blacks. And now your house is cold and unwelcoming. Because deep in your heart you know you went too far, that you should've beware yourself of the trends...

No es mi estilo, pero me adapto y hago el ejercicio de darle un toque diferente, más acogedor. Y venía yo pensando en alguien que conozco a quien le pasó precisamente esto, aunque no lo admitirá, ni yo me atreveré a aconsejarle nunca, y como me pasa a veces con las casas de amigos y conocidos, de repente lo veo claro, y mi cabeza crea un nuevo ambiente alrededor de esas piezas que aborrezco. :)

Not my style AT ALL, but I try to adapt and make the exercise of creating a more welcoming space. I was thinking of someone I know who didi exactly this, even if she doesn't admit (and I will never dare to tell). It happens to me a lot that I go to my friends homes and try mentally to rearrange furniture or change some things that I feel thay are wrong and suddenly I see it clear and I create a new space arround those pieces that I hate. :)

As I have a blog and it is mind, I share my ideas, because nobody knows, maybe they will help someone, right?

He dejado algunas piezas que no podrán salir, como el sofá, las sillas panton o la mesa de centro, y al resto e intentado darle un toque más acogedor: una alfombra marrón (ikea), una mesa de cristal, lámparas y espejo, de Portobello street. Los cojines son también de Ikea, en tonos neutros y marrones. El resto accesorios, los  rojos ya están, la planta la pide a gritos (las kentias van genial en casi todos los rincones) y la fotografía de paisaje en blanco y negro (ésta u otra) creo que le da un toque más cálido sin caer en lo obvio, además de una profundidad indispensable en este espacio.

Some pieces have stayed from the original: the sofa, the panton chairs, the coffee table and the media console. I tried to decorate around them to create a more welcoming space, as I said: brow Ikea rug (love it!), a glass dinning table, new lamps and mirror from Portobello Street. Pillows are also from Ikea, in neutrals and browns. The red accesories are also there, a plant is needed in every space and the B&W Photograph adds depth and nature to this modern space without beign too obvious.

Pues eso es todo. A veces, simplemente ampliando la paleta de color para suavizar los contrastes, añadiendo piezas de formas redondeadas y profundidad, se consigue un efecto totalmente diferente, mucho más cálido y ecléctico, que hará que tu habitación no parezca fría como la foto de una revista,  sino un lugar para vivir y compartir.

Well, that's it. Somewtimes, just opening the colour palette to more subtle tones softens the contrasts, ronded furniture and depth in the wall art help creating a tottaly different space, far from the cold modern that I hate (and it's so spread arround here). Simple and easy changes that will add warmth and put your room far from the cold magazine photographs.

Para mi hay 3 claves indispensables para decorar una casa, más si es la de vacaciones. Ahora, entremos en harina y veamos cómo acertar con nuestra casa en la montaña, pueblo, río o cualquier lugar alejado al menos 50km del mar.

Elementos naturales

Una casa en la naturaleza necesita elementos naturales bien seleccionados o al menos que recuerden a ellos. Utiliza piedra, madera, tonos naturales, telas rústicas, forja... Pero en su justa medida y siempre un poquito adaptado.

 

Quero decir que si tienes la suerte de veranear en una auténtica casa de pueblo, con respetar el estilo está todo ganado, pero si tu casa está en un pueblo, sí, pero es un piso de nueva construcción clavadito al de la ciudad, tampoco nos vayamos a pasar de rústicos...

Personalmente, en principio no iría por aquí en un piso, a no ser que los detalles arquitectónicos acompañen: ventanas de madera, exterior de piedra, vigas expuestas...

A beautiful idea to let the outer wall continue in the inside of the bedroom. I wouldn't use a stone wall in a condo unless the architectural elements of the house allowed it: wooden windows, stone exteriors, expose beams...

And what all these rustic homes have in common? Stone, wood, neutrals, rustic fabrics, forge... But in little bits and addapted. I mean, if you're lucky enough to own a real rustic home, you won't need a lot to create a perfect place in a place that's already perfectly rustic, but if you own a condo in a small town, you better avoid some trends and think twice before adding a stone wall to your dorm...

 

Cuidado con el verde // Beware of green

En cuanto al color, elegiremos tonos neutros y de la naturaleza (amarillos, granates, rosas, lavandas, azules... ) , pero cuidado con con el verde, en un entorno natural puede competir con el exterior, dando como resultado un conjunto deslucido y monótono. Mi consejo es evitarlo o introducirlo de tal manera que ayude a potencial el entorno, como en esta preciosa piscina.

Estampados

Los estampados rústicos (cuadros, vegetales, flores) combinados con rayas y motivos geométricos para darle un toque más moderno, si queremos, sin que desentone. Pueden ser kilims, alfombras de rayas, telas estampadas en cojines, mantas... Algo que no resulte demasiado obvio, pero que le dé ese toque diferente.

2 collages para un vestidor // 2 Collages for a dress room

Los collages son una buena técnica para dejar fluir la creatividad y conseguir resultados bonitos sin tener buenas capacidades para la pintura. Es muy entretenido buscar las imágenes en revistas y después idear una composición equilibrada que te guste.

Collages are great for letting your creativity flow and get interesting results when your drawing skills are not great. I love searching for inspiring images and creating interesting compositions.

3 Claves para decorar una casa de vacaciones // 3 Tips to create the perfect holiday retreat

¡Ya estamos en mayo! Y las vacaciones están a la vuelta de la esquina. Eso me hace pensar en las casas de veraneo... No todos tenemos la suerte de tener (valga la redundancia) una mansión, donde es tan fácil inspirarse y conseguir un espacio perfecto para el retiro y el relax... (Y donde seguramente un ejército de empleados se encargan de mantener impoluto tanto el interior como el exterior...)

Not all of us can have a huge mansion like the ones I'm showing you in this post, were inspiration comes easily and creating a relaxed space is easy peasy (and were probably an army of employees are dedicated to keep stopless interiors and exteriors...)

No lo podremos tener, pero lo podemos copiar. Me encanta el terciopelo morado en esta habitación, le da un toque suntuoso sin perder un ápice su estilo rústico.

Pero no por ello debemos renunciar a crear nuestro espacio único y especial allá para pasar nuestras vacaciones. Me horroriza ver fotos de casas de veraneo en playa o montaña decoradas con mal gusto, totalmente descordinandas con el ambiente, con muebles incómodos y viejos o con tendencias urbanas que quedarían estupendas en un piso en el centro de Madrid, pero de lo más "out" incluso en el lugar más "in".

1. Bajo mantenimiento // Low Maintenance

Fundamental para pasar unas vacaciones agradables es una casa que requiera poco mantenimiento y limpieza. Así que en este caso, empiezo mi lista por aquí, ya que creo que cualquier persona que se preocupe mínimamente por el orden y la limpieza debe tener en cuenta esto en su cabeza a la hora de diseñar y decorar una casa de vacaciones (puesto que las vacaciones deben ser para todos).

Para mi es muy importante vivir un poco en la casa antes de lanzarse a decorarla. Dedica tiempo a encontrar los elementos que has imaginado, pero a la vez sé flexible, a veces las sorpresas agradables son las mejores :)) y no te estreses, no tengas prisa en conseguirlo. Es una casa para descansar y necesitarás algunos elementos indispensables, pero trata de no comprarlos al azar.

Invest time to find the elements you have imagined in your head, but be flexible enough to open yourself up to fabulous findings. And don't stress out, don't rush yourself to get it done. As time flies, better buy few but meaningful things. Even if it's a tad more expensive, if you think that teak dinning table is what you are looking for, go for it. If you love it, you will find inspiration to decorate around it when the momment comes.

Decoración con azul marino: mi plan // Navy blue decoration: my plan

Sigo dándole vueltas al azul marino. Es un color que se me resiste. Aún así he acabado con un cabecero azul, que además me gusta. Después de ver cientos, no, míles de imagenes para tratar de hacerme con una composición que me guste, éste es mi plan:

I keep on thinking about navy blue. It is a color I'm finding difficult to gather a plan for. Even so, I've ended up with a blue headboard that I even like. After looking at hundreds - no, thousands - of inspiration images to try to get to something I like, I thik I got a plan:

 

 

Blanco// White

El blanco es el color predominante en la habitación. Las paredes y la ropa de cama son blancas, así como unas alfombras de Ikea que añadí en el último momento y sobre las que nos encanta pisar descalzos.

White is preeminent color in the room. Walls are white as well as linens and tow Ikea sheepskin rugs that we love to walk on.

Azul marino // Navy Blue

El cabecero azul marino es lo que más se ve y el espejo plateado de Ikea. Intenté meter dorado, como en la foto que me animó a meterme en este lío, pero como no voy a quitar el espejo, dorado y plateado se convirtió en demasiado para mí.

The blue headboard is the focal point of the room, paired with this silver Ikea mirror. I tried to add some gold to the mix, just as in the image that made me take the leap and jump into a colourful bedroom. But silver and god combination was too much for my taste and I backed down, as I'm not going to change the mirror by any means.

Amarillo // Yellow

En principio la combinación azul - amarillo  no me llamaba la atención, pero cada vez veo que es lo mejor para combinar el blanco y el azul, ya que suaviza un poco la combiación. A veces se trata de cómo combinar los colores en según qué elementos de una habitación lo que marca la diferencia. El amarillo en las mesillas es el toque divertido que creo que necesita la habitación (ahora las mesillas son grises y la verdad, queda todo bastante triste...).

I was avoinding blue / yellow combo, as I thought it was too classic for my taste, but now it's growing on me and I think it might be the best way to combine white and blue. Sometimes it's just the way you translate the colours of a palette into a room that makes all the difference. Now I think yellow in the nightstands is the funny touch my bedroom needs.

 

Azul agua // Aqua

En mi búsqueda de inspiración ví que el azul marino con algo de azul agua y blanco me gustaba, así que seleccíoné una foto que hicimos un verano en Menorca y el sábado la enmarqué y la colgué encima de la cama. Me ha costado acostumbrarme a ella, por aquello de huir del rollo marinero, pero es verdad que queda bastante bien y teniendo en cuenta la ilusión que le hace a mi maridín (siempre cuelgo cuadros que hago yo) se va a quedar donde está!

In my search for inspiration I noticed I liked navy blue - aqua blue - white combination, so I inmediately decided I needed an aqua touch in my mix. I printed and hung above the bed a photo we took at Menorca. I'm still getting used to it, as I'm afraid it's too coastal for my taste, but the hubby loves it (because he took it and I always hung my "art") so now it's a must!

 

Gris // Grey

Todavía tengo tela del antiguo cabecero, con la que pretendo coser un cubrecanapé en cuanto encuentre la inspiración para hacerlo. Es algo bastante sencillo, que creo que le dará un toque más vestido a la habitación, pero me da mucha pereza medir trozos tan grandes de tela, desmontar la cama para poder cogerlos con alfileres...  Tengo ya cortado el trozo de tela interior, que lo he reciclado de un cubrecanapé que compré en Zara Home y que no triunfó, pero no me decido, aunque sé que cuando lo haga, me sentiré mejor.

I still have some fabric leftover from the last headboard and I'm planing to use it to sew a bedskirt as soon as I find the inspiration to get to the grind. I'm sure I'll feel rewarded when I'm finished, but I'm really lazy to measure such big fabric pieces and get the matress down to pin all them together... I even bought a bedskirt from Zara home but didn't like it at all, but I just don't put my hands to the task, though I know, when I'm finished I will be glad I didi it...

 

Rosa // Pink

La manta rosa la tengo desde hace cuatro o cinco años y me gusta el rosa, ¡qué le voy a hacer! Así que se quedará donde está. Lo veo todo bastante saturado de color, muchos tonos lisos y poca textura, pero espero que con cojines y cortinas se quilibre un poco el resultado.

I bought the pink blanket about four or five years and I love pink so it's going to stay. Right now I feel I'm letting little pattern in the room and everuthing is too bold and graphic but I hope everything will balance out once I'm finished with my plan.

 

Azul claro // Pale Blue

Para las cortinas ví el otro día una tela estupenda y baratita que ya me llamó la atención, pero no supe en ese momento qué hacer con ella y no la compré. Es como un toile de jouy, pero con motivos más modernos y menos abigarrados. Espero encontrarla, porque si no, mi plan se vendrá un poco abajo. Mi idea es rematar la cortina con una franja de unos 10 cm. de la tela del cubrecanapé, para darle un toque más moderno, pero no sé si lo haré finalmente o lo dejaré para otra vida...

As for the curtains I saw a cheap and beautiful toile de jouy-like fabric that didn't buy because at the moment I couldn't figure out where to use it. now, I hope I'll find it again, because that fabric is key to my plans :) To give it a modern twist I plan to sew a 10 cm. stripe with the same bedskirt fabric, but i'm not sure I'll get there in this life...

 

Morado // Purple

Como no me parecía suficiente, decidí introducir algo de morado en la combinación con una foto que ya tenía fichada hace tiempo y que imprimí junto con la otra. Esta pared también tiene un cuadro en blanco y negro que hice ya hace tiempo y otro en amarillo que pinté la semana pasada.

I also noticed that I liked a touch or purple, so I introduced a photograph I found a while back to finish a series of three that are non related except the I love the color combo going on on that wall.

 

Rojo y verde // Red and green

Blue headboards // Cabeceros azules

Al final azul. Después de casi dos años con el cabecero beige y la habitación sin terminar por falta de inspiración, me cogió un arrebato el sábado y he aprovechado este fin de semana para darle la vuelta a todo. Cabecero azul, mesillas grises, cortinas aún por decidir, más cuadros, más colores... No sé qué saldrá de todo esto...

I ended uo with a blue headboard. After two years of a neutral unfinished room, I got finally inspired and this weeked I messed all up again. Blue headboard, grey nighstands, no choice for curtains yet, more art, more colours... I don't know where al this is heading to...

Este dormitorio que compartía el otro día Emily Henderson en su blog es el culpable. De hecho, su blog, que me encanta, es el culpable. Si a mi el azul ni siquiera me gusta, pero es que sus dormitorios azules son tan bonitos y el mío beige era tan aburrido...

Porque reconozcámoslo, os he enseñado ya bastantes imágenes (y más que podéis ver aquí) de dormitorios en tonos neutros, colores de la tierra preciosos, que invitan al descanso y la evasión...  Sí, pero ninguna pertenecía a un dormitorio de extrarradio, con menos metros cuadrados que una caja de cerillas y el encanto de Carmen de Mairena (por decir lo primero que se me ha pasado por la cabeza...)

My neutral beroom was boring and unfinishedd after two years. The only space in the house I couldn't figure out how to tackle. I have shared many earthy neutral bedroom inspiration photos, but none of them belonged to a tiny suburban bedroom lacking design and charm.

Y claro, no estaba funcionando. En realidad yo quería un cabecero negro. Pero ya tengo mucho negro por todas partes y era más de lo mismo. Y las otras soluciones pasaban por pintar las paredes, lo que tampoco era una opción. Así que azul. Después de ver esa bonita foto sacada por alguien que sabe bien lo que hace y   desesperada como estaba, no parecía mala opción. Y ahora tengo un cabecero azul. Y unas mesillas grises. Y un dormitorio sin terminar. Otra vez.

So., it wasn't working. Actually I wanted a black headboard, but there's too much black going on here and I was running out of colour schemes. Other solutions included painting dark walls, but I don't think I have the energy to paint all back when I leave. So white walls had to stay. And after staring at this beautiful and professional made photo, blue started to look like an option. And now I have a blue headboard. And grey nightstands. And an unfinished bedroom. Again.

The decorista. 

El azul no tiene nada de malo, simplemente no acaba de atraerme. En la habitación me gustan los tonos neutros y los oscuros. Pero el neutro es aburrido. Y después de seis años con un dormitorio blanco, algo había que cambiar. El problema del azul es combinarlo.

There's nothing wrong with blue. It just doesn't hit me. I like neutral or dark bedrooms. But neutral y boring and after six years ina  white bedroom I needed a change. The problem of blue is how to mix it.

Ahora mismo, como os he dicho, está combinado con gris. Tengo un espejo gris enorme (en realidad la fuente de todos mis problemas, pero no me voy a deshacer de él) y he pintado las mesillas blancas en gris (necesitaban una mano de pintura de todas formas). También tengo una manta rosa y voy a poner un faldón gris clarito, de la misma tela que el anterior cabecero. Demasiado masculino, parece el cuarto de una monja. :(

Right now it's mixed with grey. I have a huge grey mirror (that is actually the problem, but I'm not going to change it) and I have painted the nightstands grey (they needed a paint coat after all). I also have a pink blanket adn I'm going to sew (someday) a grey bedskirt (the same fabric as the original headboard). Too masculine, it looks like a nun's berdoom. :(

Houzz

Está todo un poco soso y nada divertido. Este dormitorio de arriba me gusta. Recurre al blanco y negro para darle un toque diferente, ya lo he pensado, pero meter otra alfombra en casa no es una opción ahora mismo. Me gusta también el toque del amarillo (aunque combinar azul y amarillo me cansa).

Nothing is happening in this room right now. I like the photo above. It's crispy and funny. Black and white helps malking all pop, but I don't need another rug right now. I also like de yellow touch (but I don't like mixing blue and yellow)
